Jabil is investing in the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR), and several other major electronics and contract manufacturers have committed to projects in the area. Dholera is being positioned as a major electronics and semiconductor manufacturing hub in India.
Confirmed EMS and Contract Manufacturer Investments
Jabil: A prominent global Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider, Jabil signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat government to establish an EMS unit in Dholera with an investment of ₹1,000 crore. This facility will focus on manufacturing for sectors including networking, capital goods, and automotive industries, with operations expected to begin by 2027.
Tata Electronics: In partnership with Taiwan's Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), Tata Electronics has begun construction of India's first AI-enabled semiconductor fabrication plant (fab) in Dholera with a significant investment of ₹91,000 crore. This project aims to produce chips for various applications and is expected to start operations by December 2026.
Vedanta-Foxconn Joint Venture: The joint venture has selected Dholera as the location for a semiconductor and display manufacturing facility, with an estimated investment of ₹1.54 lakh crore. This project aims to boost domestic chip and display production capabilities.
ReNew Power: This company is setting up a 2 GW solar cell and module manufacturing plant in the Dholera Industrial Zone, contributing to the region's green energy infrastructure and manufacturing base.
Polycab India: A leading manufacturer of cables and wires, Polycab plans to establish a manufacturing unit in Dholera with an investment of over ₹1,000 crore.
Why Dholera?
Dholera's appeal to EMS and contract manufacturers stems from several factors:
Strategic Location: Situated within the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and near proposed sea- and airports, Dholera offers excellent logistics and connectivity.
Infrastructure: The region boasts world-class, ready-to-use smart city infrastructure, including robust power distribution (handled by Torrent Power) and large land parcels suitable for large-scale projects.
Government Support: The Gujarat government offers a business-friendly environment with incentives, a single-window clearance system, and supportive policies to attract high-tech manufacturing and innovation.
These investments align with the Indian government's "Make in India" initiative and aim to establish Dholera as a global hub for electronics manufacturing, reducing reliance on imports and boosting the domestic supply chain.
